PRP - Facial Rejuvenation
Facial rejuvenation is sought by men and women all around the world. Historically, tighter, smoother skin has been achieved with lifting procedures such as a brow lift, eyelid lift, or full facelift. Today, we are treating many of the cosmetic concerns of aging with non-surgical, minimally-invasive procedures. PRP therapy is one of them.
What is PRP
PRP is Platelet-rich Plasma, a substance derived from your own blood. To complete treatment, we use a small amount of blood drawn here in our office. Using a centrifuge, we “spin down” the blood. This causes the desired substance, plasma, to separate from other cells. Plasma is a clear fluid that is primarily platelets and nourishing growth factors.
How PRP replenishes the skin
One of the significant roles played by platelets is to regenerate tissues when an injury has occurred in the body. Scientists have discovered that, when PRP is strategically inserted into dermal tissues, the body has a healing response even in the absence of injury. In the weeks and months following treatment, the fibrous matrix that supports the skin is refreshed with healthy substances. Subsequently, the skin becomes smoother and tighter.
How PRP differs from injectables
Dermal fillers promote rejuvenation by restoring volume to the tissues beneath the skin. Many of the fillers used today are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that immediately plumps lines and creases around the eyes, nose, and mouth. Depending on the consistency of the filler and the body’s metabolism of the product, results can last up to 18 months. Whereas fillers add something to the skin, PRP stimulates the body to produce more collagen on an ongoing basis. This treatment, like fillers, can recreate better cheek definition and fuller, more rounded contours. Additionally, increased collagen keeps skin smoother and younger-looking. In some instances, PRP and dermal fillers act as complementary treatments, maximizing the results that are possible.
The PRP facial can be advantageous for the man or woman seeking supple, more youthful skin without surgery. The reformation of healthy new collagen replenishes the skin from the inside out for a gradual, beautiful lift.
