One of the best ways to keep your skin looking its best is to give it gentle TLC with a customized skin peel. Our experienced esthetician formulates the ideal solution for your needs after a comprehensive evaluation and discussion of your goals.
Skin peels are suitable for people of all skin tones. Even those with sensitive skin can benefit from a gentle peel developed for their skin type. Each peel is personalized by varying its strength. From mild to deep, peels address a number of concerns with predictability and safety. Whether your goal is to preserve your vibrant, youthful appearance or to minimize the appearance of acne, fine lines, and wrinkles, the esthetician at Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, Inc. can devise a treatment plan around your desired outcome.
What is a skin peel?
A peel is formulated to gently exfoliate the skin. With a customized solution, we prompt cellular turnover, which means that old, damaged cells flake away from the surface and new, vibrant cells are revealed. Peels are customized through a number of variables, including the type of solution used and the duration of treatment. Peels may be light, medium, or deep.
- A light peel addresses issues on the epidermis, the very top layer of skin. The mildest peels can be done during your lunch hour because they produce minimal redness, if any. A light peel, with ingredients such as mandelic acid, salicylic acid, or glycolic acid, can improve the appearance of acne, sun damage, and minor lines and wrinkles.
- The Mélange peel can treat conditions such as melasma and hyperpigmentation with mild ingredients.
- Medium strength peels address more significant concerns with slightly stronger ingredients such as trichloroacetic acid, resorcinol, or retinoic acid. This peel may cause redness and flaking that lasts a few days. Results are more dramatic than those achieved with light peels.
- Deep peels are formulated to address more significant signs of aging and sun damage. With higher concentrations of active ingredients, the deep peel will promote heightened cellular turnover in which deeper layers of cells are sloughed off to reveal a renewed glow. Patients who select a deep peel are advised on healthy habits to follow as their skin is rejuvenated.
A skin peel can be an excellent preventive treatment as well as an effective way to turn back the hands of time. Depending on needs and the strength of peel, patients may schedule treatments as often as every six to eight weeks.
